Benedikt’s Big Weekend: 442.5-kg Raw Deadlift

Icelandic strongman Benedikt Magnusson, who we’ve said in the past can deadlift just about anything that isn’t nailed to the ground, had quite a weekend as he posted among other things the biggest official raw deadlift of all time, 442.5-kg.

Yesterday, Benedikt’s proud wife, Gemma, wrote:

“Hello Randall

I hope that you are well

I just wanted to write and let you know that Benedikt competed yesterday at the Bullfarm 2010 PowerLifting Competition in Finland and pulled a nice new world record for the raw deadlift with a lift of 442.5kg :)

He also competed Raw in the Sqaut and Bench and his numbers were 380-220-442.5 – 1042.5kg

Just thought you might want to know!! :):)

Kindest regards

Gemma Magnússon”

This is impressive beyond belief. Yes, that converts to 975.5 lbs. Raw. And yes, that 1042.5 kg converts to a 2298.3 lb total.

Training Log: notes

Went in this morning with the intention of starting my 12th cycle of 5/3/1. I started warming up and noticed something just didn’t feel right still. I totaled my car last Wednesday and had a bit of a sore neck for a couple days. Overall I feel fine, but know it’s also best to just listen to what my body is telling me and be sure to fully recover.

Had some fun with Ian yesterday riding his bike and playing soccer. Nothing intense, just lots of fun.

One week off of lifting – should be ready to hit it hard on my 12th cycle next week.

Training Log: Squat

Shoulder stretch, foam roller, leg stretch with bands

Warm up sets

Working sets:

355 x 5

400 x 3

450 x 0 missed

445 x 1

Foam roller

Not my best 5/3/1 week. I missed the 450 squat but was far from ready to give up. Dropped 5 lbs off and pushed through a 445 lb squat. Went up slow, but felt good and made it back up. Content with ending the week with a 445 lb squat.

That said, I’ll be cycling back down on 3 of the 4 lifts for my next cycle. Deadlifts are moving up, but all others will be dropped back to at least 2 cycles ago. Sometimes it’s just necessary.

Looking forward to a weekend with family, soccer with my little man, and some rest. Deload next week.
